Along with many people, we at The Stable House had to close our doors to the public towards the end of March.
Our immediate answer was to put a lot of time and energy into the Victorian Kitchen Garden which has housed pigs but not much else for many a year. We rotovated over one of the old pig pens and planted a lot of potatoes; this then led on to much digging and planting and even more weeding over the Spring and Summer months and we are now enjoying quite a variety of fruit and vegetables.
We also began to think what it would be like when we were able to re-open our doors. We realised that it would be hard for us to have guests on day retreats as this means walking through our own living space, kitchen and dining room and using the toilets in the house.
..But it had never quite been the 'right time'.
We decided that now was the time - "why now?" you may ask, with no income coming in; it just felt like the right time so we started talking to builders and miraculously we sold a warehouse in Corby at just the right moment.
The Stable Barn is now almost completed and we had our first group enjoy the space at the beginning of October. This has its own toilet, coffee machine and log burner and is an easy space for us to do good thorough cleans between groups. It was good to host some of the Kilworth Challenge committee recently after they did some work in Crow Spinney.
The other side of the stable-yard will become three Stable Studios; information can be found on the accommodation page.
So, if you would like to come up and have a walk around the wood and the Kitchen Garden and enjoy a coffee, do please contact us, or if you have family who might want to stay nearby, come and have a look at what we can offer.
