Are you tired? Worn Out? Burned out on religion? Come to Me. Get away with Me and you’ll recover your Life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with Me and work with Me - watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of Grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with Me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly”
The Stable House has always been a home that has welcomed others to visit, either as part of a structured community event, or just to come and enjoy the grounds. It is seen by many as a "safe place"; a place to retreat from the busy-ness of life, to rest, relax and be restored.
We prayerfully aim to host His Presence, wonderfully helped by the beauty of the building
built in 1888, and the magnificence of the mature trees within the 20 acres of land.
In 1970 the building was converted into the unique family home it is today. It is set in 20 acres of grazing and woodland; there is a separate 2 bed cottage (The Gate House), which was renovated in early 2021, as well as a wooden stable-yard and barn, now converted into The Stable Barn and The Stable Studios.
A walk across the gardens and paddocks brings you to the Victorian Kitchen Garden and woodland (8 acres) with greenhouses and outbuildings which we are slowly restoring. The 2020 Lockdown and need to close the property to guests, gave us a lot of time to dig up parts of the Kitchen Garden and start planting vegetables. We also have pigs helping us out by rootling the ground in readiness for potatoes.
There is also a horse ménage and a tree house, and plenty of places to walk and explore, as well as a Barista run Coffee Club, donations from which go to support an orphanage in Burkina Faso, West Africa.
The Stable House is open for retreats, and overnight stays, as well as being used for theatre digs during the Kilworth House Theatre summer season (5 minutes walk away).
